Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Mary E. Tierney, DDS, MS
Dr. Mary E. Tierney earned a BS in Biology from the University of Michigan in 1989, a DDS from Northwestern University School of Dentistry in 1993, and she completed a MS in pediatric dentistry from the University of Michigan in 1995. Dr. Tierney is board certified in pediatric dentistry and has more than twelve years of experience in private practice! She is a dental attending and carries staff privileges at The Children’s Memorial Hospital. Dr. Tierney is a past-president of the Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentistry and serves as the chairperson for the Illinois State Dental Society’s public relations committee.
Dr. A. Melissa Vargas, DMD, MPH
Dr. A. Melissa Vargas graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep on Chicago’s West Side and went on to earn a BS in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. She continued at Penn to earn a DMD from the School of Dental Medicine and a Master of Science in Education from the Graduate School of Education in 2002. Dr. Vargas then returned to her hometown of Chicago to complete a general practice residency and a pediatric dental specialty residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago respectively. Dr. Vargas is board certified in pediatric dentistry and also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. Currently, she serves as the Illinois State Leader for the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry’s Head Start Dental Home Initiative, as a director of the Board of the Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and as the Treasurer for the Greater Chicago Hispanic Dental Association. Dr. Vargas provides care in both English and Spanish. She shares a home with her husband and her two cats, Zuke & Aché.
